The Dead Don’t Hurt

Set in the 1860s, the fiercely independent French-Canadian Vivienne Le Coudy embarks on a journey with Danish immigrant Holger Olsen, attempting to forge a life together in the dusty town of Elk Flats, Nevada. When Holger decides to go fight for the Union in the burgeoning Civil War, Vivienne must fend for herself which isn’t easy in a town controlled by a corrupt mayor (Danny Huston) and his business partner, the powerful rancher Alfred Jeffries (Garret Dillahunt).

THE DEAD DON’T HURT is Viggo Mortensen’s second outing as writer-director after FALLING (2020). It’s an elegantly realised feminist western starring Vicky Krieps as Vivienne and Mortensen himself as Holger. The film had its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival 2023 where it was part of the official selection.

MOTOR provided post-production services for the film, including editing, sound design, colour grading and visual effects.
